The intent of this page is to periodically bring you information, guidance and assistance on PTA Parliamentary matters. 

Bylaws

The summer service mailing contained a set of the June 2008 standard bylaws. These bylaws reflect changes approved at the State PTA Convention. For units the cover is blue, for Councils the cover is Lavender.

Bylaws should be reviewed every year and updated at least every two years. Before beginning your review or update, please read and follow the "Procedures for Bylaws Review" and "Instructions for Completing the Standard Bylaws" on pages i - iii of each set of standard bylaws.

Also please check out the helps on this page. First are the 20 questions that need to be answered at the Unit level to complete the bylaws. Take a moment and check your currentbylaws and answer these 20 questions. Next decide if you need to make any changes and it is time to update your bylaws, just transfer the answers to a june 2008 set of bylaws and send them on through channels.

One of the helps is the style guide. Please don't look at the old bylaws and think they are correct. In most cases there was not consistency and so we are trying to be very consistent in the style in which the bylaws are prepared.

To complete your bylaws you will need to have somecouncil information on due dates, dues/assessments and voting. Check out the Twelfth District Required Council Information link to get the information for your council.

If you need help with bylaws we have scheduled 3 workshops in August and September on the following dates at the Twelfth District Cottage. Space will be limited so contact the Twelfth District Parliamentarian to sign up. The dates are:

        Thursday September 11, 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

        Tuesday September 30, 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
