Welcome to the Health, Education, and Community Concerns Page! If you are viewing this page right now, it means that you are truly "Connected for Kids"!
My name is Marcie Pollock, and this is my 3rd year serving 12th District PTA. I have also been active at the unit level since 2000, where I have served as President, Advisor, Parliamentarian, and on just about every committee that exists. Like many other parents, my passion is children and I currently am employed in the Oak Park School District, as a special needs Teacher's Aide. This year I will also add substitute teacher to that list.
This position involves attending meetings (or appointing designees) in order to represent 12th District PTA and parents. These include SARB, Early Childhood Education, School to Career, and providing the information from these meetings to the 12th District Board. Basically, I serve as 12th District's liaison to key county health and education agencies.
My goals this year include: Helping to see through advancing health issue resolutions from 12th District, keeping current health & education issues in our communication sources, and assisting units and councils with any of the health, education and community concerns issues that are out there.
You can check out our health, education and community concerns issues at the state level: www.capta.org/resources, or National PTA at www.pta.org. Other websites of interest include: CA Dupt. of Education, safe schools & Violence Prevention. www.cde.ca.gov/spbranch/safety, www.edsource.org, (clarifies complex K-12 school policy and improvement issues), and www.lao.ca.gov which carries budget info of interest to parents.

PTA's across the nation will be celebrating the arts during PTA Start the Arts Week, October 8 - 12, 2007. Take this opportunity to provide your school's students with arts experiences, and to inform school families of the benefits of arts education. Research shows that arts education builds self-esteem, teaches critical skills and boosts student achievement.
