Chartered on March 16 1920, 12^th District PTA comprises eight councils that connect PTAs throughout Ventura County. The District welcomed the 2007 ~ 2008 school year with 130 PTA units and nearly 39,000 members, all of them affiliated with the California State PTA and National PTA.

The 12^th District PTA, through its elected Board of Managers, serves PTA members, units, and councils throughout Ventura County and in the communities of Oak Park and Calabasas in western Los Angeles County. It is responsible for advising and chartering new units, training officers and committee members, and sponsoring educational programs during the school year.

12^th District PTA also coordinates the district-wide National PTA Reflections Program and awards presentation, presents an annual Mini-Convention each June, and provides convention orientation and hospitality in conjunction with the annual California State PTA Convention. Its newsletter, The Poinsettia, is published monthly and distributed free of charge to unit presidents, secretaries, and treasurers.

The 12^th District PTA Board of Managers and its PTA council presidents meet monthly during the school year.
