Peggy Buckles ~ Chairperson

Hi, my name is Peggy Buckles and I chair the Legislation Committee for 12th District PTA. My job is to pass on information that the State PTA Legislation Committee sends out including the Legislation Alerts asking our members to contact our elected representatives. I also represent 12th District on the Tri-County Education Coalition which was formed in 1994 to bring education issues from Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura Counties to the attention of the Governor and our legislators.

As part of the work of Legislation Chair I also meet with our State Representatives and organize mail campaigns, summer postcard from your vacation spot mailings and rallies at local Legislators' offices to help bring attention to how parents feel about school funding, testing and other issues.

PTA is a non-partisan oganization with over 100 years of volunteers advocating for the health, education and welfare of children and youth. PTA has been successful in getting child labor laws, juvenile justice laws, and seat belt laws as well as many other laws enacted.

You can find out more about where PTA stands on issues by going to www.capta.org and clicking on the Advocacy section.

It is both your right and responsibility to contact our national and state representatives. Many do not have children in public schools and do not have as clear an understanding of the issues as parents who spend their time volunteering in the school or classroom. I encourage you to call, write or email your representativeat the following local, state and or national office to let them know how the budget cuts and other of their decisions is effecting your chils: (I am attaching the "Where to contact your legislator" pages which will change later in the fall).

I can be contacted by clicking on the email address below my name above.
